I slept fine, though I was constantly aware of a distant roaring sound.\u00a0 <\/span>A jet engine\u2026 but, odd, we have never seen an aircraft contrail once on this whole expedition.\u00a0 <\/span>Sure enough, that low roar you hear is the sound of the jet stream slamming into the summit of everest, just over one horizontal mile away.\u00a0 <\/span>Creepy\u2026.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s goal was to move a bit higher than Camp 2, both to stretch our legs and to inspect the potential route above.\u00a0 <\/span>No ropes have been fixed higher than our position here, and because the mountain\u2019s icy surface is dynamic, there are always decisions to make about the route each year.\u00a0 <\/span>Some high-res telephoto pictures could be helpful in the planning process.<\/p>\n

A bit of a breeze, but overall a perfect day.<\/p>\n

This is the highest I have been on this mountain\u2026 last year we had to turn around at Camp 2 because of the quake.\u00a0 <\/span>Progress!\u00a0 <\/span>The upper cwm feels like a big fishbowl\u2026 and we are some mighty small guppies.<\/p>\n

It has been a good rotation, though I feel tired, hungry, dirty, smelly, etc.\u00a0 <\/span>EBC seems to be full of wondrous luxuries, such as hot showers and BBQ sauce and the internet.\u00a0 <\/span>Our plan is to leave early tomorrow, and walk all the way to EBC, arriving before lunch.\u00a0 <\/span>Winds are predicted to be an issue\u2026 this may be spicy.<\/p>\n
